Live Subtitling Solution for Online Viewers
First to market offering of live subtitle stream for viewers of web content to enable Broadcasters the ability to extend the access services beyond traditional transmission onto web based platforms and players.
LONDON 10-April-2015—Deluxe Media —a global innovator offering comprehensive creative, media, distribution and asset-management solutions for media and entertainment companies today announced their collaboration with Screen Systems to enables the hard of hearing and deaf community to enjoy correctly timed accurate subtitles on Live webcasts and players. This new innovative offering sidesteps proprietary solutions to deliver live subtitles to viewers regardless of the player being accessed.
Deluxe Media who currently deliver live subtitle files for Channel 5, Sky Formula One and ITV have adjusted their workflow to work with the new technology developed by Screen, which extends the reach of the service to online platforms as well as traditional broadcast. Using the new system, subtitle images are generated in real-time and made available on the web server, along with timing information injected into the stream. A simple javascript module in the player then renders the bitmap images at the correct time on the browser display.
Margaret Lazenby, Head of Media Access Services at Deluxe, said “ We are excited to showcase our proof of concept to our Broadcast clients. Viewing behaviors have changed dramatically and all viewers expect a seamless experience when consuming content across devices. Thanks to this new solution, we can now deliver the same high quality subtitles on live web streams as we can for broadcast platforms. We are delighted to have achieved the next step in increasing accessibility for everyone.”
Stuart Campbell, Senior Live Operations Manager at Deluxe, added, “In recent years, we have made big strides in improving the quality of live subtitles on television. By bringing together Screen’s innovative solution and Deluxe Media’s expertise in live subtitling workflows, we can now offer the same quality of service to our clients’ online platforms and reach a whole new audience.”
Andrew Lambourne, Business Development Director at Screen, said “We have been working for 5 years with the Deluxe team as they refine and develop their broadcast live subtitling services, and this latest achievement is a significant step in targeting the broader range of online content while maintaining the high standards of access services which the broadcast market has established.
